Oak. Maple. Pine. Okay, that's three. But most people don't know what most of the trees they pass every day are called. I know I didn't. So I set out to change that with a series of brass nameplates we attached to 50 trees along Bedford Ave  in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

 

We installed the necklaces at sun up on Arbor Day. Go figure: most of the necklaces went missing within the hour. (Do you have one? Let me know!) But, a few shopkeepers did their part to mind the one in front of their stores and kept the thieves at bay for as long as they could (one week was the longest).
