Bei allows parents and premature babies to develop an emotional bond when actual physical contact is impossible. Using haptic and audio technology parents and babies feel connected, enabling bonding and supporting early cognitive development. Every member of our team had close relatives that had gone through the trauma of having new born babies separated from them for treatment. When we researched the subject we found that around 1 in 7 babies spend time in neonatal care. This early parent/child separation can have long term impacts for parental bonding and for language development in the baby, yet most healthcare institutions focus purely on the physical health of baby. Our goal was to provide care to both families and babies by reducing anxiety, promoting quicker recovery and minimising the long term negative impact of the experience.
