Bei den Arabs
with the arabs
What does it mean to be a stranger?
My bachelor thesis deals with a topic that seems inevitable today: the meeting of different cultures. With a few pinches of courage, many questions and a large portion of curiosity, I set out to explore this contact in more detail. This project is a work of my personal impressions and an experience of my own approach to the Arabs, an Afghan refugee family. This process was visualized artistically and recorded in an almost-thirty-meter-long fanfold.
Through my involvement in a refugee organization during my internship, I got to know the Arabs and from then on I spent a very intensive time with them.
Before my fanfold was finished ...

... I made a lot of sketches (here you can only see a very small selection), but they were repeatedly discarded or refined. Searching for my own formal language cost me most of the time in this project.
Since a 30m long paperroll was too expensive for just one edition, I divided my entire work into A0 formats, printed and then cut out the individual strips with the help of my girlfriend and a cutting board, folded them in a zigzag fold and glued them together.
