Food Symposium
Brief
Under the direction of Prof. Vasu Reddy, Dean of Humanities (University of Pretoria), the International Symposium on Food Studies showcased a variety of research projects aimed at generating conversations among academics, interested in developing and exploring humanities-oriented food studies. An exciting brand identity was required to advertise a call for papers, as well as to promote the event. 

Rationale
‘Food’, as a concept, offers a vast and tantalising visual playground for design. After exploring several routes portraying varied meanings of food, an unexpected, monochromatic, simple and striking photographic style serves as the anchor for the identity. Since meanings of food are incredibly varied, the idea is that readers project their own interpretation of ‘food’ onto a somewhat ‘blank’ canvas. The design of the identity, aligned with the intention of the event, evokes conversation and exploration into the meanings of food.
