Leonard Bevill's profile

When Employers Typically Request DT for Employees

Following nearly a decade as the director of the occupational medicine facility for the Medical Center of Central Georgia, Leonard Bevill founded his own health services provider, Macon Occupational Medicine. Under Leonard Bevill’s direction, Macon Occupational Medicine provides evaluations, examinations, and testing for workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work physicals, and employee drug testing programs.

Under federal and state law, most employers have the right to request proof that their employees are drug-free. That being said, drug testing is most often ordered under specific circumstances. Many private companies, schools, and public agencies include drug testing as a requirement for all new hires. Candidates who fail the test may have their job offers rescinded.

It is also common for employees to undergo drug tests as part of a routine annual exam. There are also situations where an employer can require an individual employee to prove their sobriety. This includes during a workplace incident investigation to rule out drugs as a factor, and if the individual has demonstrated behavior that indicates drug use.
