Flamingo visitor center is an interesting phenomenon from the point of view of the approach to the design and shaping of architecture. This is a prime example, first of all, of architecture as a tool, and not as a design.
Yes, of course, icon building should be beautiful and recognizable, but in this case is important, first of all, to give the opportunity to watch a nature. This project acts as a connecting element between the reserve and the tourist, and visually invites the average person to interact: "sit down, relax, enjoy the views."
Features of the project - its elaboration in detail, pedantry to where it is and how it “communicates” with a person. It is not just four walls and a roof. It is a human-oriented space that has character.
So, what are these details that were previously reported? First of all, it is an artificial microclimate. Taking into account the dry and hot climate of the area, it was decided to deprive the glazing on most of the facade in public places. But, nevertheless, glaze around the perimeter of the first floor, which is recessed inside the building, in order to avoid a large number of direct sunlight. Those rays that make their way to the first floor, beat off in the reflection of water and thereby illuminate the inner hall. And the water in the pool is cool at the same time and creates a favorable humid climate for cafes and audiences.
