The Passing of Time #oneperday2020
Day One
Day One: A Natural Death, pencil on paper, Katherine Stevens, July 2020.
This image was created via a quick sketch technique, using pencil on paper. It aims to show the first day in a series which will reflect the aging of a banana; its natural death.

In regard to what worked in this image, I believe it is easily recognisable that the object is a banana. This was created by the realistic shape, and the blending of the pencil, which  aided in providing a more 3 dimensional feel.

Without colouring, it is hard to tell certain finer details such as bruise marks or cuts, that allude to the aging process. Additionally, depth is somewhat hard to perceive, as it is difficult to fully replicate a 3 dimensional object onto a flat piece of paper.
Day Two
Day Two: A Natural Death, pencil on paper, Katherine Stevens, July 2020
This image was created using pencil on paper. It reflects the second day of the natural death of a banana. It has some cuts and bruising beginning to emerge.

Comparing this drawing to the previous of this series, I believe that there is a good indication that a change has occurred in regard to its aging. Similar to the previous sketch, there is not much detail in this image, however, as the banana ages it will bring with it more detail to draw.
Day Three
Day Three: A Natural Death, pencil on paper, Katherine Stevens, July 2020.
The banana is now beginning to become rather brown, and the cuts that were created are now deepening and rotting quickly.

The creation of this image took place after the first tutorial, where new techniques relevant to pencil drawing were shown. I attempted to utilise the idea of soft and hard line to actually outline the object, to represent difference in colour. As you can see, the darker colours feature a dark line around them, whereas the lighter colours have no line outlining them.

I still believe I can work on my attention to detail, and fully replicate each and every thing I see on the banana, however, this requires time which I do not have at the moment. I would also like to possibly experiment with colour in the future as well.
Day Four
Day Four: A Natural Death, pencil on paper, Katherine Stevens, July 2020.
The banana is now losing its form and very bruised all over.

I tried a new style here, something a little more cartoonistic. Following the tutorial, I tried something new in the hatching, however, I feel as though it is not very realistic. I do like the way it looks, although it is not consistent with the other drawings so far in the series.
Day Five
Day Four: A Natural Death, pencil on paper, Katherine Stevens, August 2020.
The banana is now very soft, has lost almost all form, and bruising is substantial.

I tried to replicate the lost form with the soft edges of the drawing, however, paired with the hatching style from yesterday, there was not a clear blurring effect. I was very rushed for time today, so I had to quickly draw this, which definitely impacted the overall quality of the drawing. It has lost its connection to the real subject (as my roommate accidentally ate the banana I was drawing), and is not consistent with the other drawings.

This series has taught me I can draw bananas well, and realistically, when I have the time to spare. Otherwise, I can draw a recognisable banana, without much realism.
