Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I was one of the finishers at Daniel Clark Creative that worked on the promotional campaign for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

I had to pinch myself again, felt very privileged to have worked on one Star Wars film, but now two!? Oh man, this was another massive ongoing project and these aren’t even all the images we created. This was one of the first projects where I took on a more prominent finisher role being responsible for most of the main characters and assets in the art.
I was basically responsible retouching and building almost all of the characters except for Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). I also did the Ships, AT-ATs, storm troopers and most of the environment. One of the best parts is that I was responsible for adding Darth Vader into the shadows. They wanted him added after the comp was approved but were unsure as to where and how. They were very happy with the results.
Fun poster design, but this was a pretty challenging comp to finish. Did what I could to make lighting more cohesive without changing the sold layout, but depending on what elements you were looking at in the original rough comp, the sun was coming from opposite directions. Also, definitely wanted to make the storm troopers a more believable size due to perspective, but was declined because it was important for them to be prominent. All in all, it was definitely a very distinct Star Wars poster and hopefully most people liked it.
Responsible for lighting and integrating AT-ATs, storm troopers, helmet, and painted in reflections. Original stock shot of helmet was just a normal military helmet on sand. I had to take unit shots of rebel helmets and turn it into one and paint the rebel insignia from scratch. (references didn’t have any)
Retouched various characters and elements in this poster.
I was tasked with making all the special-shoot portraits all consistent lighting. Jyn was extremely challenging because hers was a unit shot; outdoor and cloudy day lighting. Had to repaint most of it to get it looking somewhat close. I wanted the death star plans to have more subtle chromatic lighting you see on projected light as well as stretching around their faces but had to resolve with a more simple overlay.
Painted the aspects of K-2SO’s neck to create this pose from two different renders.
