Josh Wong from Stride Media approached me to model and animate Alpha Malaysia's youth conference titled 'Guang 2020'. They were looking for an animated 3D logo loop that could be used for the countdown timer, lower thirds, and more for their youth conference 2020.
The approach to this was to firstly model their logo based on their branding, and creating a simple animation loop that they could lengthen/shorten to fit what their needs best. Working on a tight timeline, I am certainly proud of how this one turned out!
THE CONCEPT
Client's requirements for this were pretty straight-forward. Modelling, then animating a simple loop. As Guang's logo is naturally quite block-y with a few bends here and there, this was easy to model. Some might say using bend deformers would work best, however I decided to trace the logo using splines and extrudes. Personally, I've always enjoyed having more control over my models so that I can fine tweak them.
Once, the model was ready, I had text spline extrudes to spell out 'Guang 2020', animated it on a spline path circle around the logo. Animated the logo itself to rotate and spin. The trick here was getting the animations to stop at exactly where they started. This is to ensure a seamless loop when the client decides to extend/shorten the animation. I had to ensure the numbers and maths were correct when handling my keyframes. But other than that, this project was a refreshing experience and I absolutely loved working on this one!
