This is a handmade, hard-bound book I created several years ago as a school project. The text used was an excerpt from the novel The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B. Du Bois. The concept for the book's layout was derived from the 3/5 compromise, inequality, and the feeling that one was not whole. The pages of the book are translucent so that the text from the following pages show through the "missing" sections of text throughout the book. The front and back covers of the book were screen printed and the pages were hand-stitched together. The book was displayed in the student showcase and was also featured on the College for Creative Studies' website for several years. Read Less
