CREATIVE ARTS magazine
University project to design covers and article spread for a new fictional magazine. The task also included designing the abbreviated title CA as the masthead.
As each issue has a central theme, I used single striking images with no other headlines or features. I believed that if the potential readers liked the cover, they are likely to buy the magazine to find out what else is inside.
The launch issue was the most challenging as the cover would be the very first and only chance to leave a lasting impression. The initial idea of celebration had grown into a surreal scene merging vintage illustration with modern, graphic patterns.
Fairy tale themed issue 2 was approached with a more traditional, hands-on manner. The imagery used were hand illustrated, cut and pasted by me. Unlike the bold colours used for the launch cover, pastels dominated this issue.
Looking at the article layout in 2019, there was certainly room for improvement. I am glad to have experimented with an unexpected set-up that is whimsical and fun.
