2nd year University editorial project for a new creative magazine
We were asked to design masthead and 4 issue covers for this fictional magazine. As the selling line is Design. Writing. Illustration. Performance. Film., the covers must reflect the variety of the contents.
The masthead was based on my hand-drawn type, in thick, retro but clean style that's different to most design magazines on the market.
1: LAUNCH ISSUE
The first issue of a magazine will leave a long-lasting impression, so it's important to bring the appropriate feel to readers on the first time. I decided to make the magazine a little light-hearted and fun.
The theme of this issue was up to individual's choice. I incorporated paper cutting and illustration with pastel colours for a fresh look.
3: CREATIVE WRITING & TYPOGRAPHY
All features are hand-drawn/written to bring in another different type of techniques. Gems and diamonds were drawn onto the black of the printed cover with pigment marker, which reflects light and makes the gems visible only at certain angles (literally 'hidden').
