Landmark Swimming Pool

Since my childhood I’m fascinated with water. Especially swimming pools. "De Houtvaart" is a swimming pool in my neighbourhood. It’s a landmark monument, saved in 2003 from closing down by the inhabitants of Haarlem.

It was designed by architect Pierre de Bordes and built in the Cubic architectural style, like Paviljoen Zonnestraal (Hilversum) and the Olympic Stadium and Zuiderbad (both in Amsterdam). In 2019 I was asked to create a work about the swimming pool, along with other local artists. The created works were exhibited as a celebration of the monument. The exhibition, held in De Hoofdwacht, in the city center of Haarlem, was a collaboration with the Haarlem Historical Association (Historische Vereniging Haerlem) and the Friends of De Houtvaart association (Vereniging Vrienden van De Houtvaart).
