Who will remember me, the heroes of the past?
Wingers with hard heads and feet lightning fast

Fearless captains for whom your heart out you’d sing,
And frail looking Aussies who could run like the wind

Hits so big the ground would shake!
And Welsh wizards dancing leaving would-be tacklers In their wake.

When the hill to victory seemed ever so steep,
And we learned that fast thinking beats fast legs Every day of the week

With a passion and belief no one could ever deny,
And I’d still rather be a pasty than a pie.

Who will tell me these tales of heroes in primrose and blue?
If not us, then who?

'In South West Lancashire babes don’t toddle, they side-step. Queuing women talk of ‘nipping round the blindside’. Rugby league provides our cultural adrenalin. It’s a physical manifestation of our rules of life, comradeship, honest endeavour, and a staunch, often ponderous, allegiance to fair-play.'
