Betabrand Cornucopia Bag Design

The original Cornucopia Bag from San Francisco design company Betabrand has done so well, I was asked to design a few other bags to help round out the collection, as well as a merchandising strategy for their release.
The original Betabrand Cornucopia Bag shown above. The tri-color edition was new for S/S13, and was also offered in the standard single-color versions.
First up is the new Cornucopia Weekender Duffel Bag. Simple, dependable construction and signature details help carry the Cornucopia brand to a more acessable price point.
The Weekender is roomy enough for a long weekend, but compact enough to fit in a gym locker. A rubberized buttom helps protect your belongings from wet city streets. There is an external zippered pocket as well as an internal open pocket to keep things organized, and the high-visibility lining fabric comes in handy in low light conditions.
Main body constructed in Cordura, with coated bottom panels. Nylon straps & detachable shoulder strap (not shown) are rugged & versatile.
The Weekender is adaptable to any seasonal or yearly color palette.
The Cornucopia Daypack shown below is a nice everyday carryall, in a size smaller and more maneagable than the original Cornucopia. It features the same materials with a smaller footprint, a dedicated padded laptop sleeve sized to carry a 15" MacBook Pro, adjustable straps, and a zippered front pocket.
Made from the same materials as the other Cornucopia Bags, the design details and rubberized bottom all tie in visually to the rest of the collection.
This bag is also easily adaptable to different color shcemes, including solid color and two color versions.
Adding two bags to the Cornucopia collection gives Betabrand customers two other lower-cost entry points to the series and provides more flexibility/funcionality. At the top of the pyramid is the original Cornucopia Bag, which provides a huge carrying volume in a rolltop style. Below that, the Cornucopia Daypack is a versatile backpack with enough space for a laptop and supplies in a low-profile and smaller footprint. Next, the Cornucopia Weekender Duffel is perfect for a wide variety of activities, from a daily gym bag to a weekend hauler.
By adding two new styles, the Cornucopia bag family now covers all the bases and provides utility to a much wider audience. They all merchandise well together, and their smart use of color helps offset fabric minimums.
The complete collection of Betabrand Cornucopia Bags.
But perhaps even more importantly, these bags are a solid platform from which to base new edittions, like the Bike-to-Work version (a bag to compliment the Betabrand Bike-to-Work apparel collection), and seasonal print editions that keep keep interest in the Cornucopia line fresh.
From left to right: Core collection with a 6-month color palette, a year-round Bike-to-Work series with the same 3M Scotchlite reflective trims used in the apparel collection, and a limited edition print series that renews every 3 months.
