A month ago I stumbled across the story of DeShawn Willis. A young man from a tough neighborhood in Toledo, OH who has been working relentlessly to open a landscaping company. After DeShawn's truck broke down, with many clients to serve, DeShawn came up with an original way to get around town. He hitched his lawn-mower to an old motorbike.
One day, a person took a photo of DeShawn on his motorbike at an intersection and posted it as a meme on Facebook stating "Only in Toledo". DeShawn randomly came across the photo, downloaded it, and reposted it himself, owning it. His post went viral and shortly after a GoFundMe campaign was opened up for DeShawn.
During #blackouttuesday that took place during the month of June, I accidentally stumbled upon a post linking to DeShawn's GoFundMe campaign. Seeing it didn't do so well I decided to contact DeShawn and offer my help in creating a short film to help him tell his story.
