Traditional Chinese Architecture

This project examines the relationship between construction materials and locals’ habits which is carried out at Xian Niang Brook in Guang Zhou, China. Through exploring how the construction materials affect the structure of the buildings and hence how the structure affects locals’ habits, there is a comprehensive construction sequence of mud brick house and red brick house worked out respectively.

There is a comparison of 12 changes (structural and non-structural) in old and new buildings, showing what circulations could be brought from them (e.g. water circulation, light penetration, heat circulation), and hence different human activities.
