Muara Kamal, Indonesia
Our huge historical journey starts from the port located on the northwest side of the city of Jakarta, named Muara Kamal. Which is the closest port to the Archaeological Park. Here is a photo of Muara Kamal port which contains many fisherman's boats that are stopping at the dock waiting for the departure of other ships.
Onrust Island

Sorrowful secrets behind paradise
Onrust Archaeological Park consists of three islands named Onrust, Kelor (Kerkhoff), and Cipir (Kuipir) which are located on the North side of Jakarta with a distance of approximately 20 KM. Onrust Archaeological Park is a cultural preservation protected by the state in the Thousand Islands National Marine Park.
Kelor Island, Indonesia
Of the many islands in the Thousand Islands Marine National Park, the Onrust Archaeological Park is on a different path from the Thousand Islands located in the northwestern part of the group of islands. Therefore this archeological park is a choice of tourism destinations in the Thousand Islands. Beside that, with its location which near Jakarta making the Archaeological Park crowded by tourists for a vacation.
Paradise.
At first the island of Onrust was used by the Jayakarta kingdom as a resting place for the kings and also their families. until finally there was a riot between the Kingdom of Banten and Jayakarta which had chaos. In the end the island fell into the hands of the Jayakarta Kingdom. But over time, the Dutch colonial came to Indonesia. In 1610, the Dutch Colonial had asked permission from Prince Jayakarta to use the island of Onrust which was intended to facilitate the Dutch in shipbuilding.

Then on 10-13 November 1610, Prince Jayakarta allowed the Dutch to take wood and also make ships on the island. Finally, three years later in 1613, Onrust Island was transformed into a shipyard, both large and small. The use of this island as a shipyard is of course intended because of the location of this island which is very strategic, very close to Java or precisely to the Kingdom of Jayakarta which over time turned into the City of Batavia. This Island was used to move merchandise and other needs that will be brought back to the Netherlands or to the City of Batavia. But, the main function of this island is to repair ships that will sail to Asia, especially Southeast Asia. Even so many ships come to the island, until the island is called the Ship Island.

This island is always fought over and and utilized continuously
that is why the island is referred as Onrust (never rest).
Sorrow.
Dutch Graveyard at Onrust Island, Indonesia
Poetry on a tombstone about
Maria the ghost of the island of Onrust

Maria van de Velde was buried here
Although he deserves to live for years
If God were pleased that way
But apparently, Jehova blocked that with death
Maria is missing,
Maria is no more
No! I take back the word
Because it's said without thinking
Then hopefully my impudence will be fined
Now Maria is truly alive
Since living near his Lord

Born in Amsterdam on December 29, 1693
Died 19 November 1721 on Onrust
After entering through the big white gate, we can see graveyards. It can be seen from the tombstone that most of the people who died here were Dutch people who died young because of tropical disease. There is even a grave of a child who died at the age of 9 years. But behind all that, the location of the grave is on the side of the island with a banyan tree in the middle that makes the grave look very dramatic and emotional and leaves an impression on the family he left behind.
Plunge into the darkness.
Leap of faith.
Nowadays, tourists come to this island for a vacation. They usually do various activities such as relaxing, swimming and fishing. And even local children hitchhike fishing boats to get to the island at their leisure to play and swim.

Perhaps now is the time for this exhausted island to rest.
Filled with memories.

Till next time.
