My Artwork Featured By Others

Here are examples of my original artwork featured by various websites, blogs and other online destinations. In each example, I've either approached the site or the site's curator(s) approached me and I offered some examples of my work that we determined would be of interest to the sites' regular visitors and subscribers. Where available, I've included links to the sites themselves as well as accompanying descriptions that either I've offered as part of the submission, or that the site owners offer themselves.

Xaxor.com - July 2013
Xaxor.com - The highly visual website, Xaxor.com featured 21 of my photomontage creations. Describing itself succinctly as "a gallery of the most awesome pictures online," Xaxor serves up curated collections by category in fashion, illustration, photography, and other areas. My artwork is included in the site's Digital Art area, and the lead image is my experiment in understanding the work of Jerry Uelsmann, which I describe at my blog, rsmithing.com.

Minus Manhattan - June 2013
Minus Manhattan - My artwork was featured at this well-curated and prolific visual blog, with its huge selection of “links and stories on photography, art, politics, design, advertising, technology, music, and culture.” The site has been featured on The Daily What, Gizmodo, Jezebel, American Photo Magazine, The Village Voice, Boing Boing, BlackBook, and Buzzfeed.

iPhoneArt.com - Artist of the Day: February 2012 and May 2013
iPhoneArt.com - Unique among photography/art websites as being designed for artists by artists, and coming complete with its own iPhone app, iPhoneArt.com has featured me twice as an artist of the day, highlighting my creations to the site's many visitors. iPhoneArt.com is the top-ranking search result on Google for "iphone art" and other related searches.

WeAreJUXT - 1000 Words Showcase: December 2012 and March 2013
We Are Juxt - A Seattle-based online mobile arts community with an international following, the We Are Juxt group has twice featured my artwork as part of its weekly 1000 Words showcase. In the site's own words, We Are Juxt, "represents the idea that mobile art forms are quickly advancing along with mobile device technology. Mobile art is defined simply as Art created and developed on a mobile platform (for example iPhone, Android, Windows Phone). The advancement and populariy of this art form has created a culture where community is highly valued and art is constantly pushing the limits."

Flickr "Explore" Page - January 9 and 13, 2013
Flickr "Explore" Page - The photo-sharing hub Flickr selected two of my photos this month for its curated Explore page. The first image (above) is a strategically-lit door in my house as viewed from a darkened hallway. The second image (below) is of a tree in my neighborhood enhanced with a solarization effect inspired by the photographer, Man Ray. Of the approximately 12 million public photos submitted to the site daily, only 500 are highlighted on the Explore page, so I was extremely flattered to see two of mine there within one week.

MobileArtistry - September 2012
MobileArtistry - The Instagram-based group, MobileArtistry, included me in their gallery as a featured artist. MobileArtistry is well-respected in the Instagram community for consistently featuring innovative artwork to its thousands of followers. I created this montage as an example of my style specifically for the feature and did an expanded writeup on my technique. You can read the full description over at my blog, rsmithing.com

The Savoia - August 2012
The Savoia - "The Inspiration of Immediacy" is the title given by the folks at The Savoia to this feature of my artwork. The Savoia is a regularly updated blog billed as "curating all the best stories on the web," covering style, design, music, tech, humor and other topics. In the feature, The Savoia says, "Smith has fully embraced the futuristic medium of iPhoneography. He not only shoots breathtaking photos, but he also edits and manipulates each piece exclusively within iPhone photo manipulation apps. With inspirations like Scott Mutter, Dali and Jerry Uelsmann, Smith’s photos shed hints of surrealism and abstraction while remaining centered around his daily surroundings. He uses this form of expression to pay tribute to the every day life, or the immediate."
