The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division (NSWC IHEODTD) is the Department of Defense (DoD) Energetics Center and serves as the DoD Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Program lead.
 
NSWC IHEODTD focuses on the research, development, test, evaluation and in-service support of energetics and energetic systems as well as works to provide Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen worldwide with the information and technological solutions they need to detect/locate, access, identify, render safe, recover/exploit, and dispose of both conventional and unconventional explosive threats.
 
The U.S. Navy, DoD agencies and all allied nations come to NSWC IHEODTD for energetic systems solutions and EOD expertise— we support the warfighter of today and of tomorrow through discoveries that anticipate the future needs for the next generation
 
One of nine divisions of the Naval Sea Systems Command Warfare Center Enterprise, the main site for NSWC IHEODTD is located at Naval Support Facility Indian Head, a 3,500-acre peninsula along the Potomac River in Southern Maryland. It is a 1700-person organization with sites in McAlester, OK; Ogden, UT; Picatinny, NJ and a second site in Indian Head, MD. NSWC IHEODTD has the largest U.S. workforce in the DoD dedicated to energetics and EOD, comprising more than 800 scientists and engineers and 50 active duty military. The business base totals $1.4B.
INITIAL CONCEPTS
I was approached by a naval base in maryland wanted to develop a logo and tagline that brands a new division based on Indian Head Quality. IHD is implementing a compliant Quality Management System to strengthen their foothold as the premier resource for energetics technology, development and innovation. 
 
Project Mission:
Develop an implementation plan to drive NSWC IHD to ISO 9001:2008 compliance.
Core Values:
Communication, Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, Continuous improvement
Design to be based on eight (8) principles of a Quality Management System:
Customer focus, Leadership, Involvement of people, Process approach, System approach to 
management, Continual improvement, Factual approach to decision making, Mutually 
beneficial supplier relationships
Color Palette:
Patriotic theme red, white and blue or the colors of the US Navy, blue and gold. The use of these colors should not be excessive or garish.
Font Selection:
Simple and clear whether read from a distance, up close, intended for a small reproduction or large reproduction. Leaned on the side of conservative for the design.
Client informed us they liked the icon from iteration 3.1 They wanted to work with a headline of  "IH Quality" and "Indian Head Quality". They liked our new suggest tagline of  "Moving Quality Forward"
