Linda Farrow eyewear for United Nude

Stealth eyewear with Linda Farrow
Multifaceted line designed alongside Linda Farrow. The project resulted in both conceptual and commercial models.

Introducing the new product line for United Nude with the help of Linda Farrow. The first sunglasses were intended to be a strong statement piece to get a lot of attention. For inspiratoin we went to architecture and oversized eywear.
Photobash
3D renderings and photoshop were created to see how the intended look would work on different faces. The First version was supposed to be conceptual, oversized glasses that allow a large degree of privacy.
Initial concept
This 3D model was based on photoshop sketches. The first concept had a rounded, sculpted form. It kept sharp edges yet remained comfortable. The 3D rendering and model was the first step to test this concept.
ABS prototype
We made a CNC milled prototype to test the comfort and proportions. The material used was a block of clear acetate that was polished and tinted. The front shield came out as a singular sculpted piece with nosepads.
Facetted version
Lightweight and a production-friendly construction was used for further development. Again tested with SLS 3D prints.
Sample
After prototyping several rounds and nailing the size and proportions, the factory took over and prepared sample that met our requirements.
Raw aesthetic
The frame design became raw and functional. It also kept visible screws on the front, referring to architecture from the brutalist movement.
Nicki Minaj
The glasses were designed to be loud, and they clearly made such a statement in Tyga’s video feat. Nicki Minaj.
Commercial derivates
The concept was translated into more commercial silhouettes. A line of frames was built that would match the brand and create more of an everyday eyewear. One that would quietly supplement the wearer’s style, rather than override.
Square
A simplified, squared-out version seemed to be the best logical continuation of the collection for those who wanted the look, yet didn’t want to be too flashy.
Wayfarer silhouette
This kept the simple lightweight construction, and introducing a classic silhouette that all customers could recognize from a commercial standpoint.
Universal fit
The Wayfarer-inspired frame worked well for men and women. Proportionally, the oversized nature brought the balanced amount of uniqueness and attention to the wearer.
Press
While the conceptual version of the sunglasses supposed to bring attention to a new product line, the commercial version was made to sell big volume. The original concept was used in the music video for Tyga’s Dip feat. Nicki Minaj.
