In the knitwear world yarns are presented to sell to companies in this format of a Overview card with all yarns of the season, along with bigger swatch cards of each yarn for hand feel and quality. After each season most of this overview cards and swatches goes to landfill. Imagine that each company that produces knitwear have at list one overview card and multiple swatches, from Each Yarn mill that they see and have an interest in work with, that multiplied by two seasons per year. This is a lot trash produced way before any decision and garment is made.
