20 Days of Dyslexia

- The Discovery -

"
I was founded that I am dyslexic when I am in high school. Before that, even I didn’t know I am dyslexic. I used to though dyslexia is some disorder that not relate to me, and sometime I would tease my friends as dyslexia when I saw some of their typos, but found out that, actually I am the one who has dyslexia

Dyslexia is a learning disorder that takes up 10 % of all learners. Despite the high population of dyslexic children, people’s understanding on dyslexia remains low. Continuous misunderstanding and insufficient knowledge about dyslexia may pose a thread on patient’s social and psychological health.

So I started the project “20 days of dyslexia” and set my target audience as 12- 18 school children. There isn’t a perfect or only way to get along with dyslexic children. But I hope by experiencing dyslexia, audiences can build up their empathetic understanding and find out their own ways to get along with dyslexics around them.

- The Design Solution -

"
In order to facilitate empathetic understanding on dyslexic children of their difficulties and psychological aspects through interactive experience. 20 days of dyslexia allow users to experience dyslexia in a first-person view. Reflection can be trigger when user stands in the point of dyslexic children and look back to themselves.

A storytelling approach will be used to introduce different difficulties of dyslexia to create the feeling of empathy. And to differentiate the experience of learning from a book, game elements will be added to make the
learning process motivated by curiosity.

Dyslexia characteristic will be used as game rules so when users trying to win the game, they are actually getting along with dyslexia. Through 20 days of dyslexia, the user can fulfil, reflective, empathetic,
experiencing three design qualities.
