INTRODUCTION

"Quay tơ ra mắc, ra mành
Mắc là sợi dọc, mành là sợi ngang
Nốt son anh dệt đầu làng
Nốt cục đem bán cho nàng Kẻ Đơ"

Roughly translated:
“Reeling silk into warp and weft
Warps lie lengthwise, weft blends in
Men weaves untangle yarn at the village’s entrance
Women sells the knots to Ke Do Village’s lady”

Vietnam posesses a rich history and cultural diversity. Looking back at the development process, it can be seen that our ancestors have created cultural heritage to serve the community. These products contain the consciousness, beliefs, philosophy of life, aspiration, pride of the nation in each historical period. One of the features of every culture is architecture.

SOI MAC & SOI MANH are two types of yarn used to weave cloth in Vietnamese looms. The warp yarns are attached vertically and the weft is threaded into the shuttle and woven horizontally on the loom.

From these two types of yarns, heavily imbued with Vietnamese culture, I come up with an interesting metaphor: Warp yarns are thought as the wonders of nature, heaven and earth- the vertical expansion of space. The weft is led by the shuttle across the warp to form intersections that contribute to the creation of complete fabrics - a metaphorical image for the heritage created by mankind as they grow horizontally of the surface of the earth.

The project will include 12 illustrations inspired by "soi mac & soi manh". Vertical-horizon interlocks thus recreating an eternal moment representing the interplay between heaven and earth, as well as the great things that the humankind has brought.
ENTRANCE

Before entering the main exhibition area, the entrance of the exhibition has a projector and speakers to create mood and introduce concepts, themes for viewers before entering to enjoy the work.

There will also be a system of posters and a large banner, providing general information about the exhibition.
ARTWORKS

The exhibition includes two works of art: illustration by Todd Huynh and Photography by Chiron Duong. These works have in common that they are made of materials from Vietnam's cultural and architectural heritage. By different methods, small stories are told in a spirit of increasing community interest in those legacies.

TODD HUYNH'S ILLUSTRATION

The collection includes 12 illustrations by Todd Huynh of architectural heritage in a surrealistic way. By the metaphor of Soi Mac & Soi manh, Todd told the story of the anecdote forming or cultural characteristics of the people that created that heritage through the details, patterns and colors of the sky.
CHIRON DUONG'S PHOTO

The same concept, Chiron Duong used details and story of paintings to make this set of photos. The series is a further step in the story, and Chiron Duong raised the question of why there are stories in the painting. And that sentence used his picture to explain.
EXHIBITION SPACES

The main display area of the work is divided into two large rooms. Room 1 will display 12 illustrations of Todd and room 2 will display photos of Chiron Duong and installation art.

We want to create special spaces for people to interact directly. They will become an interesting way of conveying the story that they want to spread to many others.
ROOM 1: TODD'S ILLUSTRATION

The gallery space is divided into two main parts: the lower part with the heritage information system for people to read and interact with. I want to direct people to the culture of reading on print, not through electronic devices. The rest is the space for paintings, blocking the space by silk and forcing viewers to interact with the space, creating an enjoyable experience when enjoying paintings, besides, the viewer is isolated space to enjoy the picture to the fullest.
ROOM 2: CHIRON'S PHOTO

In this space, Chiron duong wants to bring viewers a more sense of concept, especially with the combination of installation art, the room becomes more and more quiet, making viewers immersed in the story even more. The two rooms are connected by concepts, colors and details on the artwork, forming an overall block but still having its own personality.
PUBLICATIONS CORNER

To further spread the spirit of protecting the heritage further, we have used images to adjust on products such as postcards, towels, stickers, books, etc. so that people can bring them back. home as a gift.
ACTIVITIES IN EXHIBITION

The success of the exhibition has exceeded our expectations. Many articles have been posted, on social networking sites filled with exhibition images, conversations constantly talking about Sợi Mắc Sợi Mành. The number of people coming to the exhibition is extremely large and we are very grateful for that, hopefully this will be a bell to awaken the love of heritage in the hearts of every Vietnamese.
