IKEA ODGER Bar Stool

What might the ODGER range look like if the design language were to be extended? The ODGER chair is a beautiful combination of design aesthetic, function and ultimately process. Manufactured from a woodchip and recycled polyprop plastic, it's a great example of how products and furniture can celebrate the material and process, utilise recycled material and create stunning product design. In this project I aim to explore that material finish and process, proposing a design for a bar stool which adopts the ODGER design language.

The image above showcases the original ODGER IKEA chair. Owning a few of these, I have a personal love for the assembly method, simplicity, style, material, balance and durability of this IKEA product. In the following visuals I show a set of ODGER bar stools that could potentially become part of the sustainable ODGER family. With this project I start exploration into what could become a whole ODGER range and furniture set.

ODGER Stool Square

The square format for this tries to replicate key design ques from the original ODGER chair, with a slight tilt and curvature in the seat, and similar assembly method. The design heroes the speckled wood chip finish that is so recognisable from the original ODGER range. This sustainable material is the focal point of the concept.

ODGER Stool Circle

The concept below explored the ODGER stool in a circular format, maintaining the same simplicity and aesthetic, but providing a slightly different from factor from the previous proposal.

Thank you for taking the time to view this project. This has no association with IKEA design team or product development. This is just a fun design exercise to explore how ODGER could create a sustainable furniture set.
