Value exploration for my "Search For Raglam" illustration. This was an exercise for me in working in a low-key value range. I'm also exploring shadow shapes and how far I'd like the light to reach to create focal points. Dark scenes and low-key illustrations can be particularly challenging but they also offer great opportunities to create dramatic lighting and mood which is what I'm hoping to accomplish here by using the light of the lantern to illuminate parts of the Raglam the dragon's face.
