The Vaalia masterplan is a result of a thorough analysis of site and implementation of an academical exercise. The design brief presented itself as a challenge because it asked to successfully densify and activate a rural area by maintaining its identity without turning it into a small-scale suburbia.
For this reason, the design is an urban model derived from Ebenezer Howard´s Garden City movement. Said urban model harmoniously balances the best of urbanity and the natural landscape through public spaces, axial organization, and reducing vehicular mobility. This is achieved through three components; the main avenue (mobility ring), the  commercial boulevard and the central park (waterfront park & flexible market).
Vaalia adopts these three components in its own unique way rendering a masterplan that balances positive aspects of rurality and urbanity.
