Caitlin Franco (Equality Charter School)'s profile

Student Growth Comes 1st at NYC’s Equality Charter sch.

As the founder and Executive Director of Equality Charter School, Caitlin Franco leads a staff of 80 who support some 450 students. Caitlin Franco is celebrating Equality Charter School’s expansion into grades one through six in 2022. Chartered in 2008, the school currently applies its holistic educational philosophy to middle- and high-schoolers.

Located in the Bronx, New York, Equality Charter’s primary focus is the emotional and social development of its students. Academic progress is important but student growth is prioritized. It is common for pupils to arrive at the Equality Charter with scores two years behind those of his or her peers. Teachers strive to present opportunities for learners of all ability levels, which means that not everyone can be brought to grade level in the time allotted.

To enhance the lives of as many students as possible, students are admitted as late as 11th grade, in contrast to other schools that require they start at the lowest grade. The school’s leadership realizes that without the Equality Charter, some families may not have access to quality education.
