ETERNAL - Wood Sculpture

ETERNAL
2020
In a harsh natural environment, I sometimes encounter trees
that survive for a long time while receiving strong wind
from a certain direction.
When I encounter such trees, I hope it will continue to live forever.
That feeling became the origin of this work title.
By changing the height of the layers in the internal space,
you can feel the depth when viewed from the front.

The size of the wood is 37.5 × 18.5 × 10.5cm. Because of the large size of the wood, I would like to make the work made from this wood an impressive and imposing expression. And also, reverse the direction. I used to usually carve wood grain vertically, but for this work I decided to carve it horizontally. For this reason, the direction of the branches is to the side, not the top. However, in order to give strength and momentum to the whole work, I designed it from the side to the upper right.
The center and the left side are carved in two layers, and only a small part is shown in the photo, but the right side is carved in three layers. By changing the height of the layers, I would like to carve so that you can feel the depth when viewed from the front.
