Play must have a stronger presence in design. We value play for children, as it enhances their physical and psychological development, yet adults never play with the same level of intensity and freedom as kids. We can close the gap between the worlds of children and adults by facilitating play for adults through the objects with which adults interact on a daily basis. Why should only kids take play seriously?
The Seesaw Bench is strictly for adults. The spaced wood and metal reinforcement reference a park bench, where adults usually choose to watch children play from a safe distance. With this bench I hope to encourage adults to seek the little thrills of life.
