project: “cimmerian shade”
This the first black and white project of Iva kapanadze a beginner photographer.
This project portrays the simplicity and complexity of everyday life also containing couple of portrait pictures illustrating different types of emotion.
The first picture may seem simple, but this simplicity is exactly what catches the viewers attention.
Without any leading lines viewers are forced to watch how the dog is being dragged along without his will, the child’s face is not clearly shown “we don’t know who or what controls our every single step".
Next two pictures depict how we, humans allow these external forces to seep into our bloodstreams and give them absolute control over our live.
These two contrasting pictures portray “The Fall into darkness” and “The Rise into cognizance”
one of these pictures illustrates a false hope, but which one?
The truth is that it’s either both of the pictures or neither.
It absolutely depends on the readers view of what hope actually means and what does it represent for them.
This “simple” picture consists of three different views of the world.
1.The darkness
2.The light
3.The shade
This is the recipe for all black and white pictures but in this case these differences consist of different types of emotions and beliefs.
The building may be in the middle and be shaded, but both parts of the light spectrum are in the process of devouring the building.
This picture is called “The Complexity of the middle ground”
The complexity is depicted by the intricate architecture of the building and what damage it has sustained over the years.
Even though the picture technically contains three “main” subjects the main subject still is the damaged setting.
Last two portraits are contrasting of each other, representing two different people at very different stages of their lives.
The left picture clearly depicts how the darkness has already manifested into the persons life.
The right picture is much more hopeful, showing how “light” and pleasant it seems even though there’s still a bit of darkness manifested in the far right corner.
Even though the subject in the left picture may be too gone there is still some hope left.
Main purpose of this project was to show how fragile human lives can be, no matter how strong you may consider yourself there is always a chance of a crisis.
Take care of each other, don’t let hate manifest into your souls and don’t be afraid to show emotions.
