The world, as I understand it, is a mess full of contradiction--beautiful, ugly, horrific, charming, kind, cruel, senseless, absurd, uplifting and despairing. To develop aesthetics that reflect this messiness and insanity, I believe, is one of the more sane things we can do.
Inspiration + Process
initial sketch + mood board. Inspirations include: Noh masks, Torture masks, branching systems, fetish masks
Growing branches on the base mask in Grasshopper. All components by me.
After adjusting the branches in Blender, I run a curvature analysis on the mesh(left) so I can have the computer figure out where to place the flowers that I made as a particle system. The flowers are placed only on the thinnest branches (areas highlighted in yellow), as in real life. Flowers don't grow on trunks.
an alternate version with blue hair. How weird do I want do go? How much aesthetic clash is desirable?
