The year 2020 so far is probably not at all how we pictured it. We have seen people suffering from this horrible virus, not being able to breathe, high fevers, induced comas and heartbroken families.
And still, with the pandemic going on and all, it has been beautiful to see how people reach out to help others. Family, friends, neighbours and complete strangers. We humans, take care of each other in times of crisis, you would say.
But why is it, that when it comes to a crisis like COVID-19, the goodness and kindness of people comes out everywhere.
But when it comes to a crisis like racism, an issue that has been present in our lives for a very long time, many people don’t respond. Or don’t respond enough...
Regardless of our skin color, regardless of experiencing racism ourselves or not, regardless of other peoples opinions: we should all fight racism. When a man is gasping for air, not being able to breathe, not because of a virus, but because of another HUMAN sitting on his neck, is beyond me.
I’m so happy to see people all around the globe, young and old, from every possible culture are joining forces and speaking up. Speaking up for equal treatment, judgement, respect and what not. It shouldn’t matter what color your skin is, what your sexuality is or what gender you are. There is NO legitimate reason to discriminate under any circumstance.
Let’s take a lesson from COVID-19 and the BLM movement, that we can’t go back to the way things were. The world NEEDS change. To anyone who has seen the images, read the news and heard the stories of what has happened over the last couple of weeks, and CENTURIES, it should be crystal clear that change is unavoidable. There is NO way to justify racism. Keep speaking up! And watch out for one another. The world will get there.
