Magnolia Vote Brand Identity

Magnolia Vote
Our goal is to build a visual brand identity that that is inclusive and encourages the registration and voting of the minority and immigrant community in District 4 of Louisiana.
Inspiration
After researching other voting organizations, I found a VERY common theme. There were a lot of check marks, ballot boxes, maps of the state or city, speech boxes, American stars and stripes. Usually in order to differentiate from a sea of logos, you shouldn’t do the same thing others do. You have to ZIG when they ZAG.
Word Association and Mind Map
A word map is part of the brainstorming session where I rapidly write down as many words as possible without editing or judging.
Creating a Mind Map helps organize the different subjects revolving around various topics in the subject.
I saw there was a pattern: unity, prosperity and security. These are things that I believe are what the target market is looking for. I kept this in mind during the sketching phase.
3 Concepts
Concepts are focused on conceptual design that works in black and white before moving onto color. Each presented with a mockup so the client can really see the real world applications.
The 1st concept was a typographic icon using the "M" and "V" from the name to create a heart.
The 2nd concept is about progress and helping others in the community attain success.
The 3rd concept incorporate the magnolia flower and the eye representing the state acknowledging or "seeing" those in the community.
Mockups
Here are the honorary mentions...
After the client selected the concept, there was a series of refinements that further simplified the design thus creating a solid and memorable logo.
After the final refinements, we ended up with this!
