CornellSun.com – 2010 Redesign

CornellSun.com 2010 Redesign
The Cornell Daily Sun, Inc. - Ithaca, New York
As the lead designer for The Cornell Daily Sun's online edition from 2007-2010, I was responsible for a complete overhaul of the information architecture and visual design of CornellSun.com, which was live between 2010-2012 – launched in April, 2010.

Platform: Drupal 6 – PHPTemplate Theming Engine
Work Performed: Information Architecture, Visual Design, Front-end Development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript), Drupal Theme Development (PHP, Drupal Development).
Previous Design – (August 2007 - April 2010)
full disclosure: this was my design as well.
The previous design was highly dependent on text-heavy story teasers that varied in length from day to day, resulting in a hard-to-manage front page. Further, it provided limited expandability and did not take advantage of the powerful capabilities of the Drupal CMS. The goals of the redesign included less body text on the front page, hooks for supplementary content, and a robust system for managing content through Drupal's back-end.
Information Architecture work began with a sitemap, including sub-branded sites, and included wireframes to illustrate the site's functionality.
The BlueprintCSS typographical grid was employed to provide a highly modular design with greatly improved readability.
Article pages included room for supplementary content within the story column and contextual links along the side.
The New Design – (Launched April 2010)
