Thom Henkel's Day of Birth Party™
You only turn thirty once.
There comes a time in ones life when they look back at where they've come from, appreciate where they are and look towards the future, surrounded by friends while getting completely lit. This time in ones life often coincides with their thirtieth birthday. I set out to make mine one to remember, not only inviting everyone I knew, but inviting literally everyone I didn't know.
The event itself was announced and directed via a landing page located at thirty.thomhenkel.com, which served as the clearing house for information and social direction. You'll notice the use of an official hashtag for maximum virality.
The Facebook event page was the first step in viral social integration, acting as a go between for the over-sharing constituency and the landing page above. The event page allowed attendees to interact with each other days before the party, increasing community investment and maximizing strat. The event page also facilitated those who couldn't attend because of physical ailments or unfortunately scheduled previous engagements by creating a venue in which they could express their desire to attend, dismay at their inevitable absence and yet, still be represented in a mutually beneficial way.
The second step in social domination and maximized strat was a direct result of the official Thom Henkel's Day of Birth™ Hashtag. Thom Henkel™ personally live-tweeted throughout the day, utilizing the official hashtag. Though the tag itself did not become a trending topic on twitter to our knowledge, it certainly built community involvement for those who attended and debilitating envy for those that didn't.
Less than twenty-four hours after the party, the Thom Henkel's Day of Birth Party™: Thirtieth Edition campaign was wrapped up as the landing page changed to reflect a sincere message of gratitude for all who did attend and severe disappointment for those who couldn't. A link to the Facebook event remains for archival purposes and another for Thom Henkel's twitter account for continued strat.
