Japanese for bridge. Architecture can be said to be the bridge between us and the natural environment. No design can live in a vacuum, likewise architecture is a sum of the interaction between the building, environment and the people in it.

This concept seeks to explore this interaction and how it can provide a well considered design solution.

Submission for design competition: Garrixon Studio

Prefabricated Vibram outsoles.
Inspired by architectural panel/ cladding, it serves many purposes, including creating a controlled internal environment, protecting the building from external conditions, preventing the transmission of sound, for providing thermal insulation and improving appearance of buildings, among other things.

The design started with the use of paneling strap as an adaptable structure to fit, secure and protect the foot over a bootie base. With addition of Fidlock magnetic fasteners for quick access.

Oversize paneling on elastic strap is the main focus of the design, visually breaking out of the midsole. The panels are adaptable and is able to conform to the shape of the foot. Perforation near the toe box for breathability. The shapes on the Vibram outsole also echo with the aesthetics of the triangle panels.

Magnetic Fidlock fastener on the upper and elastic strap for quick access.

Materials
The interconnectedness between architecture, environment and people resulted in more considerate choice of materials. Focusing on creating a more sustainable footwear.
