Final Thesis Project: Fatboy + IPod

Fatboy + iPod
2003: Final thesis project.

This project was my graduationproject on which I graduated at the University of Rotterdam. My goal (in a nutshell) was to explore the concept of integrating a soundsystem (sound-amplification) into a Fatboy (beanbag) which exclusively works with Apple's iPod.

Here I would like to show the final concept and some of the steps taken to get there.

(I thank Fatboy, Apple and the University of Rotterdam for the opportunity!)

Final concept.
Final concept: two speaker sets (per set 1 tweeter and 1 full-range speaker) and a controlbox integrated in the Fatboy. The controlbox is integrated halfway within the seam. It connects the iPod with the soundsystem.
Measurements and overall designfreeze.
Some concepts on making the design come alive: .. "the addition of speakercovers can make the impression of eyes... this gives way on new (graphic) design possibilties."

Final design of speakercover.

Tweeter speaker assembly
Speaker assembly: notice that the two speaker are not integrated in one housing but kept seperate to enhance flexibility.
Final design UI controlbox
Controlbox assembly
Controlbox assembly with the rubber sleeve added. The rubber sleeve is to be stitched in the Fatboy. The controlbox will be placed in the sleeve. this way the controlbox is still available for service when needed.
