Mobile Cafetiere

Brief: To design a reusable mug which users will be proud to own and use for several years. Long term use would help reduce the need for, and reduce the environmental impact of, single use packaging. The product must be ergonomic, beautiful, and aligned to a specific market.
A snap catch buckle must also be designed as part of an integrated strap. The clip must compliment the mug and be made from two injection moulded parts - single action moulding with no side cores.

Approach: I wanted to show my skills in attention to detail, both through sound design and aesthetics. I wanted to address what I view as a throw-away culture around coffee. The idea was for people to be part 'refill membership scheme', allowing them to refill on the go without the need of a coffee shop, a new cup, and excess waste.

Mug Description: The style was based on traditional enamel cups. Each mug comes with a Kilner jar-style lid, fixing onto the mug with pressure from the strap. The lid acts as a filtering device, turning the mug into a mobile cafetiere.
Presentation Board 1. Focused on presentation and user appeal
Presentation Board 2. Details how the product would perform and be used day to day.
Clip Description: The clip was designed around the appearance of a coffee bean, for when the two parts connect.
