Creative Process
Bird puppet used in a stage adaptation of the graphic novel "Pride of Baghdad"
My process with this bird puppet was very intuitive. I knew I wanted to be able to "talk" and flap it's wings. I had some cardboard, scissors, tape, hot glue, so I chose the beak as a starting point, made my way to the tail.
I decided to keep the head separate from the body for maximum mobility, As for the wings, I found some lightweight pieces of plastic and decided to use them as my base.
I tried to keep the body as lightweight as possible.
It ended up being a little heavier than I wanted, I stuffed the wings with newspaper for more volume.
End result is one Doomsday announcing corvid. The body is held by one arm and the wings are manipulated by another.
