The area was unveiled in 1960 by the supreme council of archaeology in cooperation with the polish mission representing the polish center for Mediterranean Ruins. The significance of that region is due to the fact that, in addition to its unique location, it contains some valuable relics of the penitentiary, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic ages; It represents the southwest boundary of the royal quarter - the most important and great neighborhood of the old city - with its close proximity to the city center, the main crossroads of the main street and the main cross-street. The area includes the building of the Roman amphitheater, the Roman bath, the cistern, the halls of the old university of Alexandria, and the collection of early Roman villas, most notably the bird population, which is one of the few models for shedding light on the development of the Mosaic industry. The area also includes a range of archaeological streets and corridors; This is a living pattern of the Roman way of life through the ages.
