This quote initiated this project, a desk masterpiece I designed and crafted with cabinet maker Erik Pettersson. The "Gesäll" (journeyman's work in Swedish) was part of our graduation requirements from Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies in Stockholm, Sweden.
The construction of the journeyman furniture spanned over one year, from May 2012 to June 2013.
Erik and I made this "life drawing"; it represents his upbringing, the hard work he put into school, and his early days as a cabinet maker. He then was able to buy his dream car, a Mini Cooper. Unfortunately, he had to sell it to sustain his years studying at Carl Malmsten. After finishing his Gesäll, Erik will repurchase his mini and continue this beautiful journey called life.
