CORONAVIRUS : CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT

Coronavirus, the name of the virus, that everyone will remember throughout their life.

It’s group of RNA viruses. It causes diseases easily in mammals and birds. It belongs to the family of Coronaviridae, and the sub family of Orthocoronavirinae. The genome size of coronaviruses ranges from approximately 26 to 32 kilobases, one of the largest among RNA viruses.

Coronaviruses ( CoVs) are a large group of viruses where corona means crown.
These type of coronavirus have special features like jumped species which is responsible for transmission between different people.

It is termed as SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome CoV 2).
It is originated in bats. They have characteristic club-shaped spikes that project from their surface.

Coronaviruses are large, roughly spherical, particles with bulbous surface projections. The average diameter of the virus particles is around 125 nm (.125 μm). The diameter of the envelope is 85 nm and the spikes are 20 nm long. The envelope of the virus in electron micrographs appears as a distinct pair of electron-dense shells.

The WHO (World Health Organization) has declared pandemic for COVID-19.

Age group which is likely to affect : Some groups of people are more likely to have severe disease if they get infected are older aldults > 65 years of age and people who are obese.
Children are very unlikely to be severely ill.

People with certain medical conditions are also at risk factors. Medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension, lung disease, heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, weakened immune system including a weakened immune system caused by taking steroids or other medications that affect the immune system.

How disease can kill : In this generally lung is affected so if lungs cannot recover, patients cannot breathe on their own.
Lack of oxygen can damage the organs in the body, causing increased risk for heart attacks, kidney failure, strokes, and clotting disorders.

Transmission : Infected people have virus in their mouths, noses, and throats.
Droplets come out when we are talking, laughing, coughing, and sneezing.
These droplets can enter another person’s mouth, nose, or eyes
One cough can produce roughly 3000 droplets.
Droplets travel up to 6 feet
So mask can reduce transmission.

Two kinds of tests which are performed for detecting it are : Diagnostic test identify virus in the body. These are polymerase chain reaction tests. These test give a sign that the virus is reproducing in your cells.
Antibody tests identify antibodies to the virus, usually in blood. Antibodies are made by your immune system to fight off viruses or bacteria. Some antibodies (IgG) begin to develop when you are sick and can identified after you recover.

Signs of coronavirus : Signs are objective measurements which helps us to characterize illness during a physical exams.
Temperature   2. Breathing faster than usual

Symptoms of coronavirus : This tells us about how the people feels:
Common symptoms are:
Fever   2.  Tiredness   3. Chills   4. Muscle pain  5. Cough  6. Loss of taste or smell  7. Difficulty breathing ( Increased rate of breathing, shortness of breath, chest pain while breathing )  8. Headache   9. Sore throat   10. Blue lips or face, which could mean they are not getting enough oxygen Some people have no symptoms and are asymptomatic .

Incubation period : The incubation period is the time from when someone is infected until symptoms develop.
The incubation period ranges from 2 to 14 days.

Infectious period : The infectious period is the time during which someone infected can transmit the virus to other people.
The infectious period begins 2 days before the start of signs and symptoms of disease and ends after 10 days on the onset of illness.
People who are asymptomatic can also be infectious.

Isolation and Quarantine : Isolation keeps sick people separate from healthy people. Duration of infectiousness is 2 days before onset and atleast 10 days after onset of illness.
Quarantine restricts movement and contact of healthy people who have been exposed. For 14 days since the last contact with the person who is infected. Stay safe.

Treatment : Although there is no vaccine available to prevent COVID-19, you can take steps to reduce your risk of infection.

Avoid large events and mass gatherings and social meetings and if you want to buy any medicines then you can go for buy medicine online in India.

Avoid close contact (within about 6 feet, or 2 meters) with anyone who is sick or has symptoms.

Stay home as much as possible and keep distance between yourself and others (within about 6 feet, or 2 meters), especially if you have a higher risk of serious illness. Keep in mind some people may have COVID-19 and spread it to others, even if they don't have symptoms or don't know they have COVID-19.

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Cover your face with a cloth face mask in public spaces, such as the grocery store, where it's difficult to avoid close contact with others.

Cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw away the used tissue.

Wash your hands right away.Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.Avoid sharing dishes, glasses, towels, bedding and other household items and other personal things and maintain personal hygiene if you're sick.

Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, such as doorknobs, light switches, electronics and counters, daily because it is studied that coronavirus stay on porous surfaces like cardboard, paper, fabric, etc. for 24 hours and on non-porous surfaces like glass, plastic, stainless steel, etc. for 72 hours, so it’s necessary to disinfect it.

Stay home from work, school and public areas if you're sick, unless you're going to get medical care. Avoid public transportation, taxis and ride-sharing if you're sick.

So these were signs, symptoms, treatment and relevant terms related to our trending virus of 2019-20 Coronavirus (Covid-19).
