Ambala ranked 433 in the Swachh Bharat Sarvekshan of 2016. The govt. of Haryana posed a challenge to Recity Network to take the rank below 100.
With this aim, we photo documented the waste management systems of Ambala, Haryana, to understand what the city needs in terms of infrastructure, policy making and public co-operation to be a cleaner city over-all. Over a period of three months, all 20 wards were documented and improved along with the locals, govt officials and waste workers. Door-to-door campaigns were carried out to make the residents aware of waste segregation practices, awareness sessions were held at every religious gathering, every ward-level gatherings, in schools, and every medical facility.
Another campaign launched was 'Ambale di shaan' (Pride of Ambala) acknowledging the waste workers and providing them with better infrastructure and safety gears.
