Freelance project in collaboration with architect Ernest Abuin.
Design Statement:
The bunker type volume of this house in Savannah, Georgia, is pulled north, away from the Wilmington River, and towards the marshlands north of the plot. The building form addresses this topographical line, wallowing the roof deck to engage with the river's flow naturally.
The material palette reinforces the intimacy of the relationship between architecture and context, with walls finished in pristine white concrete with embedded leaf patters. White-washed-Roman bricks resembled historic Savannah gray brick, decks made from silvered pipe, resembling driftwood, and industrial exposed steel. The series of horizontal volumes frame space, views, and provide a powerful counterpoint to the structure's low horizontal mass.
