The book describes changes of the chateau throughout ages, emphasizing the Baroque era. Seeing all the Baroque paintings, manuscripts, and plans inspired our layout where we are using red color for headlines and notes as well as the choice of Baskerville font from the Storm Type Foundry.
Johann Adam Questenberg embarked upon the reconstruction of his inherited château in Jaroměřice in 1708. The model for the architecture of the château, which had been built and furnished by 1737, was the French châteaux, which the building’s owner had become acquainted with first-hand during his Grand Tour.
The furnishings in the château interiors are documented by the preserved inventories, which enable us to get a glimpse of the life of a Baroque château, its operations and its everyday and ceremonial moments.
A château would not be complete without a garden. Johann Anton von Questenberg’s château was surrounded on two sides by a decorative garden with small structures, terraces, flowerbeds and arbours.
The garden’s crowning glory was the garden theatre. The garden also housed a small menagerie and an aviary, but its dominant component was its exotic flora, the wealth and diversity of which is documented in a unique inventory of the Jaroměřice château garden and its orangery and glasshouses.
