Auschwitz did not fall from the sky

My task was to work with the text of Marian Turski, who gave a speech at the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. I designed a magazine article which contains my lettering and illustrations. The design focuses on making the message of Turski easily understandable for a wide audience, with particular focus on people living in East-Central Europe. It aims to change people’s behaviour in their close environment/community, and to make people feel that they can (and they should) do something when they see injustice around them.
The comics is based on the Pyramid of Hate. Its stages are the following:

1. BIASED ATTITUDES – accepting stereotypes, not challenging belittling jokes.
2. PREJUDICE – stereotyping, telling belittling jokes, name-calling.
3. DISCRIMINATION – social, educational and employment exclusion, harassment.
4. VIOLENCE – murder, rape, assault, terrorism, vandalism.
5. DEADLY ACTS – genocide, bombing, assassination.
The project was realized during my studies at ASP Katowice / Typography studio with the guidance of Tomek Bierkowski and Paulina Urbańska.
