Francisco Costa assumed the role of Women’s Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection after working directly with Mr. Calvin Klein, and debuted his first collection for the house in 2003.

Known for his iconic and minimal, yet sophisticated designs, Mr. Costa’s work has received critical acclaim and numerous awards. In 2006 and 2008, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) named Mr. Costa the Womenswear Designer of the Year. In 2008, he was given the Mortimer C. Ritter Award by the F.I.T. Alumni Association for excellence in art and design. In 2009, he was honored by Parsons The New School for Design at the school's annual fashion benefit. In 2009, the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum recognized Mr. Costa with their Fashion Design Award for excellence and innovation in design.

Growing up in the small Brazilian town of Guarani, Mr. Costa was first exposed to fashion through his parents’ childrenswear apparel business. He arrived in New York City in the early 1990s with aspirations of designing for a large house. While studying English, he enrolled at F.I.T. where his talent quickly earned him an Idea Como/Young Designers of America award, which led to further study at F.I.T. and abroad in Italy. He would then go on to work for Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, and Gucci before joining Calvin Klein. Read Less
