I was born in downtown Toronto, Canada. My hard working immigrant parents made every effort to shelter me in my early years. We lived on top of our supermarket and even though I was sheltered it seemed like I saw everything. During the 80's images of struggles of immigrants, prostitutes working our lane way and heroine addicts shooting up outside our front door were burned into my subconscious. Somehow it was too dangerous to play street hockey with the neighborhood kids.

My curiosity in people was satisfied at my parent's little supermarket. It was a place that exposed me to many different people from all types of backgrounds and walks of life from a very young age.

Growing up in a Portuguese community and living in Canada opened up my way of thinking from a very early age. Consuming Portuguese culture at home, Canadian culture at school and every other culture on the streets expanded my mind. I've always been curious about culture and getting to know people who are different from me. It's always exciting to make a connection with someone on some level, even if only for a moment through a camera.

I hold a Portuguese & Canadian passport. I'm married to an Australian and we traveled around the world in 30 days. Literally.
I'm very serious about what I do but don't take myself seriously.
I still get in trouble with mom for joking around too much. Heart attacks are serious and not funny. I try to be the opposite of a heart attack.
I should have been born in a time when the cars weren't classics yet and the hot joints would be playing swing music. I'd be shooting pinups and Heff would have hired me as his first official staff photographer. Read Less
I am a commercial/editorial photographer specializing in "real" portraiture. It's not always easy but I always try to find a connection with the subject. My camera is a wall, a curtain. When I'm behind it I become focused, I only look forward. It's a wall that helps me move closer and find that real connection.

Everyone is different; confident, quirky, shy, strong, award, easy, uneasy. Sometimes I move closer to provoke, other times I move back to relax the subject. When I put the camera to my eye that character comes through in glimpses. Real moments. That's when my finger squeezes the shutter release.

My objective is to create a two dimensional image that has a multidimensional feel. I want that portrait to express connection without any words. Read Less
I have always made it a priority to invest in the best equipment that I can. I use top quality Canon bodies and L series lenses.

Sometimes only the best is good enough and that's why I invested in the gorgeous 39 megapixel Hasselblad digital camera system and Profoto strobe system.
