Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is the first and top science & technology research university in Korea. Founded in 1971 to raise elites in science & technology, critical for Koreas economic takeoff, KAIST has been the gateway to advanced science & technology, innovation, and a driving engine for the development of Korea for past 4 decades. KAIST is regularly ranked at 1st place in the Korean Joong-Ang Daily evaluation of universities nationwide. USNews place KAIST as the 7th best Asian university. QS World University Rankings placed KAIST 63rd overall and 24th in Engineering and Technology in 2012.
Since its establishment in 1986 as a unique design department in science and engineering disciplines, idKAIST (the Department of Industrial Design at KAIST) has been playing a leading role in creating effective and extra values of industrial products from the process of generating basic concepts to the final production of the products.
With a goal to cultivate "well-rounded industrial designers as generalists", the department offers education programs to build students' keen observation skills, broad knowledge, rich creativity, and superior form manageability which are required to lead a product development process by collaborating with other departments in various academic disciplines.
Furthermore, with a vision to nurture "world-class designers capable of creating innovative digital business by grasping hidden needs and desires of the users based on the understanding of the cutting-edge technology", the department also offers courses designed to foster students' scientific thinking skills and aesthetic creativity on the basis of their understanding of engineering. In the year of 2009, idKAIST has been listed in the top 30 Design Schools by Business Week.

SIGDS : Summer Institute for Graphic Design Studies (시각디자인과 계절학기)
Instruction is provided by professors from RISD's Graphic Design Department. RISD's renowned, comprehensive design studios and high-tech facilities, among the very best in the country, complement a curriculum that is both technically advanced and conceptually innovative. The SIGDS curriculum is especially attentive to addressing the monumental changes that have occurred as a result of the globalization of visual communications. Its courses seek to aid participants in the challenging undertaking of improving the way we communicate visually. The individual offerings range from those with little emphasis on technology to those much more dependent on technology, but all invite students and other aspiring graphic designers to join with educators and professionals as they create exciting, well-considered graphic design.

IDRP : Integrated Design Research Program (융합디자인연구과정)
IDRP (Integrated Design Research Program) is part of the B.S. in Integrated Design
Certification Program administered by the Department of Industrial Design at KAIST. Its
purpose is to help students from various departments, including the Department of
Industrial Design, to undertake wide-ranging interdisciplinary research. The program
requires students to solve problems in diverse fields through the application of design
methodologies, and the solutions they produce are entered in domestic/overseas
competitions or submitted to journals/conferences for publication. The result is the
cultivation of aptitude and capability for systematic integrative design.
